What Are Your Work Habits?

“Half of mastery is showing up, the other half is being present!” – Paul Turro

Want to produce extraordinary results? Get Present!

What are your work habits?

1) Checking email in the morning

2) Surfing the Web while you’re doing a task

3) Not writing something you have to do in your calendar as soon as you think of it

It’s important to know that you are NOT your work habits.  They’re just habits you picked up along the way and it’s those habits that are giving you the results you have.  One of the most essential aspects to being a highly productive person is being present to your work habits and choosing good ones.  Did I mention that some of these habits can be cleverly disguised as work? Sometimes I sit down to work only to realize that I need to get organized first, then I can work.  That habit is clearly not increasing my productivity.  I could give myself an upgrade and actually do all my organizing and prep work BEFORE it’s actually time to work.  Would that make a difference?!

There is nothing wrong with those less productive habits, they just don’t support the goal.  Here is where the integrity comes in.

What do I mean by integrity?

“Integrity is actually a phenomenon in and of itself—one that goes beyond what we might mean by morality or ethics. It’s one that has more to do with authenticity—being true to ourselves—and it is the foundation for power and effectiveness.” – Mark Spirtos, Landmark Forum Leader

You’ve got to have the integrity to be honest with yourself about your work habits.  Once you’ve got that, you can genuinely look at all your habits, keep the ones that work and replace the ones that don’t.

I’ll have more of that please!!

Ready to take it to the next level?  Time to determine your infrastructure!

What is your infrastructure? Your calendar, cell phone, iPad, note pad, address book, Evernote, car, google drive, usb drive, etc…

How do you use them?  Are they all working together?  Do you have a system that doesn’t let things fall through the cracks?  The more you can trust your infrastructure, the more free you are to be in the moment.   You don’t have to constantly be worried about did I forget something or scrambling in a meeting to get the info you need.  You are solid!

If you are constantly looking at how can you upgrade your work habits and infrastructure, you will be in a constant state of growth and producing more and more results.

Now that’s a game worth playing!
